Clipboard protection, such as it is

Upon loosing the clipboard protection in SS12, which I understand it might not be effective in Windows 10 and definitely not 11, I searched for alternatives and was left disappointed.

I had used one pre-15 licensed SpyShelter on my every-day system. On all my other systems (Win7 and Win10), and on the every-day prior to SpyShelter, there’s Clip-Trap, in use here since 2010 or so. When Win10 arrived, I was pleased to find it runs 100% effective in that environment.

I do not have a Win11 system, but it should be OK. Please post up here if you decide to try it.

The official download source is:
https[colon]//skwire[dot]dcmembers[dot]com/fp/?page=cliptrap
One no longer needs a membership; don’t forget to donate.

If you need to find it elsewhere, make sure you get the latest: v.1.2.2 build 1 in About and 1.2.2.1 the exe Properties > Details.
Earlier versions will NOT have the security options!

ClipTrap stores a dll here:
C:\Users\User1\AppData\Local\Temp$$$$$_ClipTrap_temp
NOTE!! THERE IS A \ BETWEEN TEMP AND $$$$$ BUT THIS DISCOURSE FORUM SOFTWARE JUST AIN’T LETTING ME DO IT.
The folder is removed when the app is closed.
You may need to except the folder if you run a clearing task within that temp folder (manually or scheduled, e.g. CCleaner or Task Scheduler).
Your temp folder might have a different path, so search for your $$$$$_ClipTrap_temp folder.

The folder in which you unzip to will have the exe, changelog.txt, and config.ini. When ClipTrap is active, clip.txt stores the clipboard data until removed dependent on settings, your actions or closing the app.

SS15 finds ClipTrap as unsigned and safe. For those running an earlier SS15 having Registry Integrity Control, I suggest creating a Deny Registry Key Modification in Riles, manually or when prompted to choose.

Those little lines in the tray icon (depicting the clipboard and ClipTrap) indicate data present. Either disappears as the data goes bye-bye. Neat.

Cheers.

Interesting app! Thanks for sharing.

One thing I don’t like about Windows and the clipboard is that many people don’t realize there is a setting that saves all your clipped items. If you don’t like that feature go to your Windows Settings, then search for “clipboard” then turn it off.

The “official download source” I posted seems to have lost track of ClipTrap. Just do a search on ClipTrap and download it from your favorite free/shareware site. (I always use Spftpedia.)

This ClipTrap folder should be excluded from anything you use to perform housekeeping duties. The obfuscated text is, of course, your user name.

I have just tested SS 12 against ClipTrap, and it’s successfully able to block it from monitoring the clipboard? I assume you meant that this function doesn’t work anymore in SS 15?

SS 12 could monitor access to screen, clipboard, keyboard, microphone and webcam. SS 15 can only monitor access to the mic/webcam and it blocks ALL apps from making screenshots, which makes it unusable for me, since you can’t allow trusted apps to access the screen.

May I ask what OS version you use? For screenshots, the way we make it work, it cannot pick and choose what to block unfortunately and we don’t believe it can be implemented to do that in a reliable way with Windows 11.

I must add that, like SpyShelter 15, also ScreenWings prevents making screenshots globally, you can’t whitelist apps.
RasheedHolland’s OS is Windows 10. If I remember correctly he wasn’t able to install SpyShelter 15 on Windows 10, maybe SpyShelter 15 is incompatible with that OS. If the SpyShelter’s team can confirm this, I think you should add a note on the website that SpyShelter 15 is only compatible with Windows 11, maybe near the big blue button “FREE Download”.

There are many Windows 10 versions. I will see if we can add the specific version SpyShelter does and does not work on. Some Windows 10 versions are EOL I think, while others are not?

Windows 10 support ended on 14th October 2025 Windows 10 Home and Pro - Microsoft Lifecycle | Microsoft Learn but I guess that some Windows 10 users will have benefited of “Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU)” Windows 10 Extended Security Updates | Microsoft Windows , anyway not RasheedHolland if I remember correctly.
About the note on OS’ compatibility, in other websites until now I’ve only seen for example, “Compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10” or “Compatible only with Windows 11”, not the OS’s builds. I presume is too much work for developers to test their software on every OS’ build simply because there are too many. In my opinion you should test SpyShelter 15 only on the latest Windows 10 build, if you feel you have to do it. Mine is only a suggestion of course, I’m not a technician or a software’s developer.
However, since nothing prevents users from using their OS even after the end of Microsoft support, if SpyShelter 15 is indeed compatible only with Windows 11, the addition of a note on the download page warns users that on OS prior to Windows 11, the software does not work.
Of course it’s not mandatory, some developers does it, others not, it’s your choice.
