Browser problem

I download your app hoping it can solve my problem but I don’t know how to do it. I use superantispyware to scan the laptop and it can’t delete the scanned items informing me that I have to close the browser which is running. The fact is there is no browser running after the scan. Please help.

Thanks for using SpyShelter. Our software focuses on monitoring executables on your PC that can indicate spyware, but we don’t deal with browser cookies. I’m not familiar with SuperAntiSpyware so I’m not sure what steps to take next with that… sorry.

Hello,

sometimes after closing the browser it could be that its processes remain active (it happened to me too). To close all processes you have to open the Windows Task Manager pressing these three keys at the same time: Ctrl + Shift + Esc, then right click on Firefox and then “End task” , assuming you use that browser as I can see its icon pinned on your taskbar. Otherwise you can simply reboot your PC and run SuperAntiSpyware again.

*edited* I’ve just seen that in pop message you can also let SuperAntiSpyware close the browser for you (1st option)

Hello Kaliban

Superantispyware can close the browser and delete the items but the problem is my laptop might be linked to another device whose browser is used to look into what I am doing with my laptop.

I have followed your instructions but after clicking the keys the screen does not show any response.

Please advise.

Leung

Hello Leung,

those instructions work if you were using the browser. Now you’re saying that your PC is infected by some sort of trojan or maybe someone you know is using a software like TeamViewer for diagnostic purposes? If you suspect that your PC is infected I don’t know how to help except suggesting you to run a complete antivirus scan and also try the free software AdwCleaner 2025 - Free Adware Cleaner & Removal Tool | You don’t need to install it, it’s a single executable file.

Malwarebytes also offer a free on-demand malware & removal scanner (for realtime protection you need to upgrade to subscription-based Premium version). Unlike Adwcleaner you have to install it. You can find the download webpage here

https://www.malwarebytes.com/ (free download & device scan on the left)

I’m sorry but I’m not a technician, I’m just a PC user.

Judging by the the Edge and Firefox shortcuts on your Desktop, either could be the culprit (so could Open Office) and it is unlikely Firefox is it.

As well, “browser” could be one more or several of many things. Win11 makes extensive use of WebView2 (an Edge subset) which will show in Task Manager Details (msedgewebview2.exe).

FYI: in Task Manager you can open the Details view (your screenshot is of the Processes view). On the left, it’s the sixth of the seven little icons. Lots to think about there…

Something you use might leverage the legacy Runtime Utility for Internet Explorer and its API, libraries and extensions (ieframe.dll, wininet.dll, etc.). Task Manager will not reveal any of that.

Without sitting with your PC and running forensic software (for which I used to get The Big Bucks), it’s unlikely you’ll find the support you need. That said, as long as your system doesn’t lock up or shut down or restart by itself, or dump into a repair mode, you shouldn’t fret so much about cookies, trackers, etc. Especially if you’re logged into your MS account (versus a local account) and even more so with Copilot (which may also have its own “browser” behavior), your telemetry belongs to Microsoft.

You should just choose the “close browsers and and clean” or “do not clean.” Being the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware, you don’t have much choice finding help in overcoming your issue.

BTW, in Edge or Firefox, when you hold down Shift and Ctrl and tap Delete, it will open a dialogue where you can select what to delete in real time on the fly and continue browsing.

Good luck.

Hello Kaliban and Surt

Thanks for your reply.

I have used quite a number of paid version of internet security software including Malwarebytes. I am now using the paid version of avg but it seems that none of the software can solve my problems.

Let me be frank. For reasons I don’t want to discuss here I am a target of hackers (it has nothing to do with money, I am not rich). Those hackers can watch everything I do on the net.

I am prepared to buy a paid version of superantispyware and see if the paid version can solve my problem. Before I do that, can anyone tell me whether the paid version of this software (spyshelter) can solve my problem?

Hello Leung,
I’m sorry to hear that. I’m not a SpyShelter user and I think that only Carl or someone of SpyShelter team can answer to your question but anyway it’s not easy for them, probably it’s impossible, to give you a certain answer. As user Surt rightly wrote “Without sitting with your PC and running forensic software (for which I used to get The Big Bucks), it’s unlikely you’ll find the support you need.”
Maybe you should contact a software technician near to you because the problem is really serious.

Regards

@Kaliban suggested contacting someone near you to help, and that’s good advice. I think if I was in your situation I’d wipe all my devices and replace them all with new hardware, along with replacing all my network hardware/modems with new hardware. I might also switch ISPs completely.

Then consider making all new email accounts, a new phone number with possibly a new phone service provide, then go to your physical bank location and provide all the new information to them in person.

If the situation is so serious that all your devices are compromised then I don’t think any software can help. But once you have all new devices then security software can probably help you stay safer in the future.

Kaliban: Thanks for the bold text! :slightly_smiling_face:

hktallman: You have my sympathies. As well, your paint a broad stroke in your everything description. SpyShelter should be run in Paranoid mode. Rules would be used to block apps from using your cam and mic in your situation if you could nail down the offending processes. Anything flagged as unsigned under Activity > Rules is suspicious. That said, anything malicious would have been flagged during install. As none were, that would align with the behavior of Malwarebytes and AVG, powerhouses (as is SpyShelter) in their field.

Were you to have hired me back in the day, I would have started with your router and modem for any settings that may have been suspicious. At the least, you can check with the maker(s) for the any alerts and do firmware update(s) as needed; this often whacks the exploit. If you lease the device(s) from your ISP, call them.

A common exploit for the scenario you describe is a proxy hijack:

Open Settings > Network & internet > Proxy and turn off “Automatically detect settings” if it’s on, the default. See that “Use setup script” and “Manual proxy setup” are off. Turn off if needed. (If at some point you were instructed by a legitimate interest to evoke settings here, make sure they’re correct.) If that solves the problem, restart the PC and make sure the settings don’t return, indicating a Startup or Autoruns exploit which is beyond the scope of this discussion.

That’s all I can offer at this level above and beyond the highly constructive advice posted by Carl.

Again, good luck.

Hi dont know if this will help you but i use ccleaner with ccenhancer just instal; ccleaner then ccenhanser download the enhanser add ons it will ask you if you wont to run ccleaner say yes then give it a minit to load the enhansers addons click any of the items you wont cleand then run ccleaner and IF YOUR BROUSER IS RUNING IN THE BACK GROUND IT ASKS DO YOU WONT TO CLOSE YOUR BROWSER SAY YES —–BUT DONT CLICK BOX FOR IT NOT TO ASK YOU NEXT TIME and thats it on my pc it closes any browser im useing thats runing in background works with thunderbird and explorer too . Hope this helps good luck

Tech person (professional one) will be a major help here. Sans outside help the forum (about SpyShelter) might not be able to help you effectively unless the you get the tech support you need. Based on your inputs this is a serious one and you are compromised already alongside your devices. Goodluck.
