WinRing0 Severe Threat

I installed it yesterday, it looked pretty cool, but I uninstalled it because of the high RAM usage, which will be no problem on my new laptop. I’m guessing if I can install AppControl, then the newest SpyShelter will also work on this Win 10 machine.

Of course the GUI is quite similar, so it was cool to see. It would be really cool if SpyShelter implemented protection against code injection and keyloggers. The registry monitor should also make a comeback, but in a way that it’s less intrusive.

I do wonder though why AppControl constantly tries to connect out? Also, the window size is not remembered. But in the future I will give some more feedback on the AppControl forum.

We should use limited resources, plus in settings there is an efficient mode which uses even less. Thanks for your feedback on that and the feature ideas.

AppControl connects out if you have suspicious app checking on (to check hashes) or if you view app insights to see what an app is. Those are loaded from our servers, otherwise the installer would be out of date and massive. AppControl checks for software updates also.

I have not seen an issue with the window size not being remembered. We will try to reproduce this.

Yes, on a laptop with 16GB RAM it should be no problem, but I currently only have 8GB RAM, and Vivaldi uses a ridiculous amount of RAM sadly enough.

And the checking for hashes/app insights should explain it, but personally I don’t like it when apps constantly connect out. Of course AVs do it all the time, that’s why I don’t like them. I rather upload files to VirusTotal and rely on behavior blockers.

About the window size, if it’s maximized or resized and you load AppControl again, it simply ignores it. BTW, now that I think of it, perhaps you can make AppControl also list services and drivers, seperately? I mean similar to Pserv and System Explorer, see links.

Yes, I saw the efficient mode, that’s pretty cool. Too bad that Flutter uses so much RAM, I wonder if WinUI 3 is any better? I did like it that AppControl feels pretty smooth.

And to clarify, I won’t be installing SpyShelter 15 because I already explained it wouldn’t make any sense for me to replace SpyShelter 12, but I’m glad that at least I got to see the look and feel via AppControl, which is pretty much the same.
